Bumble Bee Snails, Engina sp. are a great addition to your clean up crew. They clean up detritus, including leftover food and decomposing organisms. Due to their small size 1/4 to 1/2 inch, they can get into small crevices and tight locations between rocks. They will also burrow into your sand bed, consume sand dwelling worms, such as Bristle and help aerate your substrate. Bumble Bee Snails are carnivores so make sure there is plenty of food for them. If there is insufficient food they may feed on other snails in your aquarium or consume Polychaetes whether beneficial or the more troublesome Bristle Worm. In most established aquariums Bumble Bee Snails do not require supplemental feeding. However, if sufficient food sources are unavailable, supplement their diet with meaty foods such as Brine or Mysis shrimp and other frozen meaty foods.
